Funding Community-Centered Law Enforcement
Law enforcement isn’t just about patrol cars or body cams; it’s about building the systems, staffing, and trust needed to keep our communities safe and our officers supported.
In Congress, I will work to expand and reform federal programs like the COPS Hiring Program, Byrne Justice Assistance Grants (JAG), and the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act to better serve today’s realities. We need smart investments that strengthen public safety while promoting transparency, accountability, and justice.
Here’s what I’ll fight for:
Fund the full ecosystem of public safety, not just officers in uniform. That includes detectives, forensic analysts, administrative staff, mental health crisis teams, and community-based violence prevention professionals.
Guarantee mental health services for law enforcement personnel, including trauma-informed care, regular wellness checks, and confidential support -because officers under pressure need real resources, not stigma.
Require and fund robust training in de-escalation, mental health response, and cultural competency, so officers are prepared for the diverse, complex challenges they face in the field.
Support federal grants for equipment modernization, fleet maintenance, and safe facilities -especially for departments in small towns and rural areas that are often under-resourced.
Create a national police accountability and certification system, preventing officers with records of serious misconduct from transferring to other departments without review. No more rotating bad actors across jurisdictions.
This isn’t about being “pro-police” or “anti-police.” It’s about being pro-community safety and pro-accountability. Our public safety system must reflect the values of justice, respect, and service. That starts by funding smartly, supporting officers holistically, and holding every department to the highest standards.
As your Congressman, I will work to build a law enforcement system that is modern, trusted, and rooted in community — one that serves and protects everyone, fairly and effectively.
