Gun Violence: Courage, Commonsense, and Federal Action
I lived in Aurora, Illinois, a community where shootings are not just headlines. They are funerals. They are grieving mothers. They are the empty chairs left behind by children who never made it home.
I’ve witnessed the horror of gun violence up close. These aren’t statistics. These are our neighbors, our classmates, and our kids.
Gun violence is a national public health crisis and in Congress, I will fight to treat it like one.
My Federal Plan to Save Lives:
Universal Background Checks & Waiting Periods
I will fight to pass the Background Check Expansion Act to require checks for all gun sales – including private sales and gun shows and reasonable waiting periods for all purchasers. No more loopholes. No more excuses.
Mandatory Gun Safety & Secure Storage Laws
I support Ethan’s Law, which sets federal safe storage standards and mandates basic safety training because responsible gun ownership starts with education and prevention.
Ban Ghost Guns & Close Online Market Loopholes
I will support legislation that outlaws the untraceable sale or 3D-printing of “ghost guns,” and require all firearm kits and parts to carry serial numbers and background checks -ending the backdoor pipelines that arm violent offenders.
Fund Community Violence Intervention (CVI)
I’ll expand DOJ and HHS grants for community-led violence prevention programs, especially in cities like Aurora. These are evidence-backed strategies that de-escalate conflict and save lives without criminalizing communities.
Invest in Victim Support & Trauma Recovery
Survivors of gun violence deserve more than thoughts and prayers — they need federal funding for trauma care, grief services, and long-term recovery programs.
Reject Fear-Based “Solutions”
I oppose arming teachers or turning schools into armed zones. What we need is mental health funding, school counselors, and smart gun policies not fear-mongering.
This Is Personal – And It’s Preventable
I grew up with lockdown drills. I’m raising my kids in a world where school safety means checking exits before test scores. That’s not freedom — that’s fear.
I’m not running for Congress to make friends with the gun lobby. I’m running because we’ve already lost too many, and I refuse to let one more parent bury their child while Washington plays politics.
We can reduce gun violence. But it takes courage. It takes federal action. And it takes leaders who are willing to act before another tragedy strikes.
Let’s be the generation that finally says:
Enough.
